As to procedures and time scale a lot depends on the size of the estate. We may need to check if the terms of any Will are valid and if any party has any other legal claim. There may be inheritance tax to pay.  In most cases we require to apply to the Court for Confirmation, the Scottish equivalent of probate.  We will contact all relevant parties including banks and insurance companies, assist with the sale or transfer of the house and other assets, and provide advice to family and beneficiaries.   Throughout it is our aim to deal with matters as quickly as possible and on a personalised level.
